Dr. Oz 3 Day Cleanse: A Review & Results

Last week, Dr.J and I decided to do the Dr. Oz 3 Day Detox Cleanse. I had been increasingly not feeling well on and off for over a month so I felt it was high time for me to detox and restore my system. The last time I had felt like this I did a detox and it worked wonders, so when I read about this cleanse I thought it would be perfect and is only for 3 days.
This plan is pretty straight forward. For 3 days you will follow a simple schedule that consists of a breakfast, lunch and dinner drink. Click here for the printable. Dr. Oz's website states that the cleanse will cost $16 per day. After purchasing all of our groceries and supplies, the cost per day for one person was about $18, so all in all we spent about $108 for two people.
Day 1
Breakfast - I woke up amped and ready to go. The breakfast drink was ok, I wished my banana's were ripe so that the drink would be sweeter. This was my favorite of the three.

My stomach started to hurt shortly after drinking the breakfast drink, it was a cramping feeling. I think that may have been caused by my acid reflux.

I went to my piloga class and working out felt good but my stomach started to hurt again toward the end of the workout.

Lunch - The lunch drink made a ton, it was enough for Dr.J and I to share and have leftovers. Based on a tip, I only used 2 stalks of celery. I actually like the taste of this one but I couldn't get past the texture. The texture made it almost unbearable. So I strained it through a sieve and drank it right down. About an hour later I had an tremendous boost of energy but my stomach was still hurting.

I felt like quitting but I wanted to complete the rest of the day.

Toward dinner time I got really hungry and missed real food . Watching TV was awful, seemed like every show and commercial was showcasing the most delectable and enticing food and had me wanting to run out and buy it. Cooking for the bambini was the worst.

Dinner - The dinner drink was ok but the cayenne pepper was too much for me and my acid reflux.

The best part of the day was the detox bath!
Day 2
I felt absolutely horrible. I had an headache and felt a little out of sorts. I also complained a lot and was especially grumpy.

Breakfast - I still liked the breakfast drink but my banana's still weren't to the proper ripeness, so it was a little bitter.

Lunch - For the lunch drink this time, I added a little more of the almond milk and it helped with the texture. I bought little tiny limes so I upped the amount cause I needed a little more tang, don't do this if you use normal size limes. The texture was still hard for me to get down but I drank most of it as is, then I strained it the rest.

I got a small boost of energy again after drinking the lunch drink but I still had an slight headache. My stomach wasn't hurting as much as the first day.

Dinner - I made my dinner drink without the pepper and it was much better.

Again the best part of the day was the detox bath.
Day 3 - The Last Day
I woke up at 2:40 am and was ready to run a marathon, I felt like a million dollars! When I looked at the clock I almost hit the ceiling, I thought it was around 5 but no it was 2, now that was pushing it. I couldn't sleep, my body felt great and I was happy to complete the rest of the day's drinks.

For the green tea I didn't put any Stevia in it and it was a lot better. I guess I do not like Stevia, the taste was off-putting to me.

Breakfast - The breakfast drink was a lot better, my banana's were finally ripe.

Lunch - For the lunch drink, that is dubbed Swamp Juice, I made a few more changes that was so helpful. I added about a cup or more of almond milk and cut the kale up smaller. This helped the texture a lot. I could drink it without straining it!

Dinner - I cut the kale up smaller for the dinner drink as well and it was a lot better.

Once again, I loved the lavender bath!
Results
I only wanted to do the cleanse to help reset and restore my body, loosing weight was a bonus! I lost 7.5 pounds and my stomach (my problem area) was flatter! :)

Dr.J lost 6 pounds! And his stomach is a lot flatter as well.

It has been a week and we still haven't put the weight back on!

Thoughts
It is better to do this with a family member or friend. It holds you accountable with added support.

Lets face it, you're going to go through a psychological warfare with yourself, once again, this is why doing this cleanse with someone else is so beneficial.

I want to Thank my husband for following me up and doing this cleanse with me, he helped me so much! My sister for encouraging me over the phone. My friend Shannon for just listening to me. For Mrs. Beth for giving me encouragement, she has done this cleanse before. Blogging friends Alissa and Kristen for the tips. See ya soon!

  9. How often are you supposed to do the cleanse?

    1. I have only done the cleanse once and my husband twice. Not sure how often except for on an individual basis. Cleanses should be done in moderation and when needed paired with eating well and natural.

  10. Wow Darnetha, you nailed the way I am feeling at the end of the first day. My stomach is cramping and I am just hoping for sleep at 9pm. Your review was encouraging! Unfortunately, my partner decided that rather than have me cook him dinner, he would make a grilled cheese. The smell almost put me over the edge and he is lucky I didn't strangle him :)

    1. I understand wholeheartedly! It was hard cooking for my kids during this cleanse and took way too much willpower to not taste their food. Let me know how you feel after day 3.
