A Nutcracker Greeting

Hello Sunshine! According to German folklore, nutcrackers were given as keepsakes to bring good luck to your family and protect your home. The legend says that a nutcracker represents power and strength and serves as a guard to protect your family from evil spirits and danger.

One of my favorite Christmastime outings is to attend the nutcracker ballet. I remember my sister-in-law taking me for the first time to see the Columbia City Ballet put on the Nutcracker. With it's memorable scenes, the nutcracker ballet holds a special place in my heart.

When Home Depot invited me to participate in the Holiday Style Challenge, I knew the nutcracker would be a perfect jumping off point and wanted to incorporate them into the design. With drums making an appearance in the ballet and their fun whimsical aspect, I wanted to make a pair to flank the door.
My nutcracker Christmas porch reveal is live on the Home Depot Blog. I hope you stop by to check out my nutcracker soldiers cheerfully welcoming guests and ushering in the holiday season. On Monday, stop back by for my DIY drum tutorial.
