Synchronized Knobs

When we first bought our home over 5 years ago, we were blessed with all different exterior door knobs. They all had to have a different set of keys. One even had a different key for each lock, the top and bottom lock, which complicated things further cause we did not have a key to the top lock. We circumvented this problem for as long as we could.

Not only were our key chains full of keys, the knobs were all different colors. Now you know that's a big no no! This is how the front doorknob looked before.
A quick spray paint session would have handled the color problem but we had our key situation to contend with. So a couple of weeks ago we tackled it. We went to Lowe's to check out there selections. We ended up going with this and this Kwikset set in Venetian bronze.
We chose a fancier knob set up for the front door. I am absolutely in love with this knob. It has a classic but yet a modern feel to it. There is also one key feature of this knob that appealed to my husband. Under no circumstance can I lock myself out the house using it! I have a problem with locking the keys in the house, I think I lock myself out about 2 to 3 times a year. Bad, I know, moving on...

The installation was very straightforward and the instructions were easy to follow. The front door knob set up was the same as any door but we would have to drill a small hole through the door to anchor the handle. It came complete with a template.
I was scared when it came time to drill the hole. There would be no turning back. I triple checked my measurements and we went for it. Simple! It fit like a charm and it looks great!

Welcome to our humble abode!
Not only do our new knobs look great they all use the same key! Hallelujah! Have you upgraded any of your locks lately? Have you seen the new touch screen keypad locks? Do you lock yourself out the house often? I can't be the only one! See ya soon!

    1. We are too happy to only have to carry around ONE house key. Seems silly to be happy for such a thing until you have to live otherwise.

  2. The new hardware makes such a difference. I need to do the same to mine. I tried using rub n buff on my inside handles and it didn't turn out so well. Hope you enjoy your weekend.

  3. Perfect Darnetha! I also had the same problem at our home but short of changing the knobs, we had a locksmith come and unite all the locks into one key! I would love to do an update like yours too, but alas, I am waiting until I can change the whole doors all together!

  6. Love the knobs, they look gorgeous. I change my locks all the time which is necessary when you have numerous pet sitters all the time and you can't keep up with who has keys and who doesn't. Kinda scary!
